Murong Youning, personal name Jing (静), is the eldest son of the former Marquis Murong. Youning was a childhood playmate of Xie Ruxian.

Beginning in his teens, he went on to participate in military training and rose through the ranks, eventually becoming a captain and later a general. He returned to the capital to observe the mourning period for his father and take over as head of the family. His title is Marquis (侯爷).

Youning seems serious, is serious– just a bit less stupid than he lets on. Likes to present himself as someone who only has fighting and war on the mind, but he comes from a family of schemers and social climbers. Feels emotions very intensely, which isn't typically a problem when it doesn't involve Ruxian in some way. Can be quite brusque but is really soft-hearted at his core.

Even before that, the Murong family has held prestige for military accomplishments and prowess in battle.

As a child, he often played with Xie Ruxian, a grandson of the emperor. In their teens, this blossomed into romance, though their relationship grew strained when Youning eventually went away for his military pursuits. Upon news of his father's unexpected death by illness, he returned to the capital to take over as head of the family and observe the requisite mourning period before adopting the title and lands.

Youning's primary ambition was to establish himself as a capable head of the family and take over his father's various pursuits in court, which would clash with Xie Ruxian's designs, setting the two against each other politically…
