Modern Jianghu
Near-future setting with advanced technology in some areas, but wuxia rules, rituals, and cultivation abilities apply. There's also a bunch of old ass immortals hanging around.
Tradcul
Traditional cultivation without the use of technology or other enhancements
Practitioners often join formal sects but may also choose to go it alone or work with more casual groups or arrangements
Goals of cultivation can range from increasing health to immortality and beyond
Some sects have history spanning hundreds or even thousands of years; many are newer
Sects are registered and regulated, with codified avenues for conflict resolution
Specialized
Cultivation Schools serve children who may not have access to traditional sect education; they generally cover grades K-12 but students can enter the system at any age
Those who graduate from cultivation school may join sects, go into procul, choose not to pursue cultivation further, or any number of possibilities
Procul
Procultivation is a sport that grew out of traditional jianghu ranking lists
Think wuxia fight sequences on a grand scale
Matches are 1v1, 2v2, group battles, or grand melee, and take place on holographic stages
Stage settings range from modern or futuristic to traditional milieus like bamboo forests
Abilities may be technologically enhanced for greater visual impact
Strict rules about power caps with many regulations in place to prevent real injury
Legendary weapons are banned
Many procultivators come from tradcul backgrounds
Procultivators have stage personas, wear a variety of hanfu styles, and have their own lore
Large fan-following with its own fan culture
There are videogames, mobage, gacha, and all kind of licensed merchandise, etc based on procul
Procultivation doesn't have sects; rather it has agencies
Some procultivators are also members of tradcul sects
